Ben started working for the faith based campground, Lutherlyn, in the summer of 2008, located in Butler, PA. While he had detested being a camper there, being on staff allowed him to "loosen up" and enjoy camp life. This was Ben's first opportunity to learn about Environmental Education as a profession. During his internship in the summer of 2013, Ben developed a spider hike lesson plan to teach students how important our eight legged neighbors are.

In 2008-2010 Ben worked through Boy Scouts of America's Troop 17 located in Allison Park, PA to complete his Eagle Scout Project. Each project is designed to fit a need in a community. Thinking that he wanted to make an impact on a community he worked with closely, he approached the executive director of Lutherlyn, Randy Gullickson, for ideas of a project. The ED told Ben about how the ladder golf courts were recently destroyed in a thunderstorm. Ben then set out with the help of his troop to create a storm and camper proof ladder golf court for the community to enjoy for years to come.
